Siqiancun Fm

Period:
Cretaceous

Age Interval:
Early Cretaceous, K1sqc (27c)

Province:
Shandong

Type Locality and Naming

The Siqiancun Formation was erected by Li Qingping and Zhao Fengjiang in 1992. The section for the designation is from Dingjiagou to Youxinxing of the Dasheng Town of Anqiu City of Shandong (118°51′E; 36°18′N).

Lithology and Thickness

The Siqiancun Formation is represented by compositionally compound conglomerate, gray gravel-bearing grit, purple gray lithic sandstone, fine sandstone with sandy conglomerate and mudstone. The Siqiancun Formation is 619.10 m thick.

Lithology Pattern:
Coarse-grained sandstone

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Its base is a conformable contact marked by purple gray sandstone with sandy conglomerate is distinguished from yellow gray fine sandstone with gray mudstone of the underlying Tianjialou Fm.

Upper contact

Its top is disconformably overlain by the Quaternary in the type section, but regionally it is in conformable contact with the overlying Mengtong Fm (=Mengtuan Fm).

Regional extent

The formation occurs in the Ximu fault zone. In the Mengtong area of Zhucheng of east Shandong, it is represented by gray and gray purple conglomerate and coarse sandy gravels with purple medium- fine-grained sandstone and break red siltstone, with a thickness of more than 500 m. In the Mazhan basin of the Yishui County of west Shandong, it is dominated by sandy conglomerate with sandstone and shale, measuring 600 m in thickness.

Fossils

The formation yields floras Brachyphyllum cf. ningshiaensis.

Age

Shown in Chinese Lexicon as Barremian, but underlying Tianjialou Fm (Xi et al., 2019, Cret. Integrated Strat. Timescale China) is assigned as upper Albian, therefore schematically shown as lower Cenomanian here.
